Dental Implant Recovery
Healing takes time
The surgical site and the bone around the implant heal on different schedules. Your treating team determines when the implant can support its restoration.
Before going home
Ask for written instructions on cleaning, eating, and follow-up. Contact your treating team if the implant feels loose or symptoms worsen.
Prepare for the period between visits
Before treatment, ask how to clean the area, whether there are temporary changes to eating or activity, and when the site will be reviewed. Ask whether you will have a temporary replacement and how to care for it. Keep the instructions where you can find them after the appointment.
Know what to report
If symptoms worsen or the restoration feels loose, describe when the change started and where you noticed it. The treating team can decide whether an examination is needed. Ask what they will check before fitting the final restoration, even if the surgical area feels comfortable.
