Questions to Ask Before Dental Treatment
Clarify the decision
Ask what problem the treatment addresses, what alternatives exist, and what may happen if you wait. Request an explanation in plain language.
Confirm the plan
Ask about visits, costs, likely recovery, and who to contact if something changes. Write down the answers so you can compare options later.
Start with the finding
Ask the dentist what they saw and how it relates to your symptoms. If they show you an image, ask which feature supports the recommendation. Compare benefits, risks, the possible effects of waiting, and the visits involved for each option.
Check that you can explain the plan
Summarize the next step in your own words and ask about anything you cannot explain. Confirm whom to contact if your symptoms or circumstances change. If you need time to decide, ask how long it is reasonable to wait and request a written plan or estimate.
